Walking
The Sierras of Extremadura
32 walks in five mountain ranges - Sierra de Gata, Montes de Toledo and Sierra Morena - La Garganta de los Infiernos Natural Park - Roman and Morrish paths
Extremadura is one of the east-known regions of spain and also one of the most untouched and unspoiled. It is a beautiful mix of rugged mountain ranges, gentle rolling hills, deciduos forests, deep river valleys and pasture shaded by holm oaks. Many thousands of paths criss-cross the area, some of them laid down centuries ago as communication links with the outside world. The hand of mankind is seen in the historic cities, picturesque villages and active agriculture - arable, fruit orchards, olive groves and fig plantations.
The walks range from 6km to 20km in length, and have been chosen to reflect the diversity of walking in the sierras of Extremadura. All are walks that involve some climbing but none require montaineering skills.
- 32 walks described in five mountain ranges incorporating 23 smaller sierras
- 10 options to link walks of up to 26km
